Project Background

C&H Electric performed a comprehensive electrical upgrade at Race Rock’s Glastonbury manufacturing and galvanizing facility, including infrared thermographic inspections to identify potential electrical issues, conversion of existing lighting systems to energy-efficient LED fixtures, and upgrades to the facility’s electrical service infrastructure. The project improved system reliability, energy efficiency, safety, and long-term operational performance while minimizing disruption to facility operations.

Replace existing 480V delta service with new 480V wye service. Install new 600A main disconnect, utility metering cabinet, 600A distribution panelboard, transformer vault, primary and secondary conduits, grounding system, standby generator for cutover, load transfer to new service, removal of existing service, site excavation, retaining wall, bollards, and restoration of disturbed areas

The Challenges

C&H Electric faced the challenge of completing infrared inspections, LED lighting retrofits, and electrical service upgrades within an active manufacturing and galvanizing facility while maintaining uninterrupted operations and minimizing downtime

The Solution

C&H Electric developed a phased execution plan that coordinated work around production schedules, performed infrared inspections during designated maintenance windows, completed LED retrofits in stages, and carefully planned electrical service upgrades to minimize disruption. Through close coordination with facility personnel and proactive safety measures, C&H Electric successfully maintained uninterrupted operations while improving the facility’s reliability, efficiency, and electrical infrastructure.

The Results

C&H Electric successfully completed the infrared inspections, LED lighting retrofit, and electrical service upgrades while maintaining uninterrupted manufacturing operations throughout the project. The phased approach minimized downtime, improved facility safety and electrical reliability, reduced energy consumption through modern LED lighting, and enhanced the overall performance of the facility’s electrical infrastructure.
