Project Background
C&H Electric played a key role in the phased renovation and expansion of Stamford Hospital’s Pediatrics and Psychiatry departments, supporting the transformation of existing healthcare spaces into modern, patient-focused environments. Over the 10-month project on the hospital’s ground floor, the scope included the demolition of outdated areas, renovation of existing facilities, and construction of additional treatment, support, and staff spaces to improve operational efficiency and patient care. C&H Electric performed electrical demolition and modifications to existing systems, then installed new electrical distribution, lighting, lighting controls, receptacles, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems throughout the patient care, staff, and support areas. Completed within an active hospital setting, the work required careful coordination and phased execution to minimize disruption to ongoing clinical operations while delivering upgraded infrastructure and enhanced functionality for patients, families, and healthcare providers.
The Challenges
One of the primary challenges of the project was meeting the stringent anti-ligature requirements within the Psychiatry department while completing the work in an occupied hospital environment. Specialized fixtures, devices, and equipment had to be carefully selected and installed to eliminate potential ligature points and comply with behavioral health safety standards. The project also demanded extensive coordination with hospital staff, architects, and other trades to ensure all electrical components — including lighting, controls, receptacles, and fire alarm devices — met both patient safety requirements and operational needs without impacting ongoing hospital services.
The Solution
To address the anti-ligature requirements within the Psychiatry department, C&H Electric implemented a highly detailed installation process, recognizing that even small inconsistencies could create potential safety risks. All electrical devices, lighting fixtures, controls, and associated equipment were carefully installed and inspected to ensure compliance with behavioral health standards and hospital requirements. Extra attention was given to mounting methods, device placement, and fixture integration to eliminate potential ligature points while maintaining functionality and durability. Through meticulous workmanship, continuous coordination, and rigorous quality control, the team successfully delivered a safe, secure, and code-compliant environment that prioritized patient well-being and staff safety.
The Results
The successful completion of the Pediatrics and Psychiatry renovation and expansion project provided Stamford Hospital with modernized, safe, and highly functional patient care environments that support both current and future healthcare needs. The upgraded spaces improved operational efficiency, enhanced the patient and staff experience, and increased the department’s ability to deliver specialized care. By meeting stringent anti-ligature requirements and completing the work within an occupied hospital setting, C&H Electric helped create a secure, code-compliant environment that promotes patient well-being, supports clinical staff, and ensures the highest standards of safety and reliability.
